Utilizing the Senior Living Sustainability Guide (SLSG)
The Senior Living Sustainability Guide (SLSG) is a tool for benchmarking sustainability within the Senior Living Marketplace. The guide includes four dimensions: (1) Resident, (2) Organization, (3) Operations, and (4) Physical Setting. The overall goal of the guide is not to begin with the built environment, but to establish the desired outcomes for the resident being served. The process for creating a truly sustainable project includes the identification and fulfillment of those resident experiential desires first and foremost, the development of organization structure, identifying all of the operation functions, and creating a physical environment that supports the other three dimensions. Sustainability is a continual process with necessary periodic benchmarking to successfully sustain a senior living setting over time. This presentation will highlight key aspects of the guide; including tools and resources that are available for pilot projects. Case studies to include the utilization of the Guide to develop standards for organizations, evaluate operations and function programming, and the overall success of senior living settings.
