Tallying up the details of firms by their revenue, office locations, staff size, services, and more, the annual Almanac of Architecture & Design, produced by the Greenway Group is now available and it makes for interesting reading.

This almanac gives comprehensive information about top architecture firms listed including the year the firm was established, worldwide and US revenue, contact information, senior principals, and charts showing market segments and work outside the US.

Admittedly, of the “architecturally significant” structures, healthcare facilities have unfortunately been left out but there is still a wealth of information to glean from this publication.

You can also find statistical information listing annual payroll, and paid employees organized by state for architecture, interior design, and landscape architecture firms as well the number of licensed architects.

A section in the almanac pays tribute to notable designers, innovators, and patrons who contributed to the field of design in 2011.

As the scores from the AIA Architecture Billings Index continue on a positive trend, showing an increase in the demand for services, the healthcare sector is also seeing an uptick—albeit at maybe a slower pace. Firms are not only increasing their range of markets but also looking further afield for business.

With pioneering developments, a wider understanding of evidence-based design and emerging technologies, 2012 is already off to a great start for the healthcare market and design firms, and be they large or small, they are gearing up for a changed landscape.

Maybe next year’s almanac will have healthcare included but if not it is still an interesting read for reference.
