Centro de Cancer ABC MEXICO CITY, MEXICO

Mexico City's Centro de Cancer ABC (American British Cowdray Cancer Center) is a comprehensive oncology center that provides a new central location for many services that had previously been located throughout the campus.

Starting from the outside of the building, our jurors were very impressed with the “excellent exterior design and use of materials,” and especially the “wonderful, interesting façade.”

Because the facility was built on an odd-shaped and tight urban site, the jury also praised the integration into this challenging environment. One juror noted that the “architectural design was sensitive to surroundings and tectonic features,” while another stated that “despite the building's irregular shape, the interior floor plan works well-the vault fits into the scheme perfectly.” And of course, the jury appreciated the “creative, unique roof garden” that provides a striking green element from both the outside and inside of the building.

Moving to the interior of the building, the jury responded strongly to the “consistent planning and smart stacking” found within the facility. One juror specifically pointed out that “radiotherapy is easy accessible,” and also appreciated the “patient flow through a simple direct corridor to daylit gowned waiting.” The jury also gave high marks for the “elegant chemo suite.”
