By Design: An Integrated Approach to Value Engineering

The Ahuja Medical Center at Chagrin Highlands, a 144-bed (ultimately 600-bed), $150 million, 425,000-sq.-ft. general hospital based in Beachwood, Ohio, undertook an integrated value engineering approach in its schematic and design development phases, before concepts “doomed to die” became too firmly set in people’s plans and hearts. Recently the lead architect involved in the project, Shannon Krause, AIA, of Dallas-based HKS, Inc., described the process for HEALTHCARE DESIGN Editor Richard L. Peck.
