Parkview Medical Clinic is facing the challenge of preserving the life values of small-town America and the legacy of the family physician as the Twin Cities metropolitan area encroaches upon the community of New Prague, Minnesota. This project gives the clinic the visual community presence, technologic updates, and growth potential to meet the challenge.

“Family practice” in this case refers to the caregivers, as well as their patients. Dr. John Berg, who started the practice 34 years ago, and his sons Drs. Mark and Dan form the nucleus of a growing medical practice. They are developing competitive services the community needs without sacrificing the values and advantages of their small-scale practice.

To meet the goals of Parkview Medical Clinic, the building accentuates quality care, convenience, efficiency, comfort, and familiarity. The patients’ experience at Parkview begins with a convenient, easily accessible, sheltered entrance. Their arrival is observed by staff, whether seated at the registration desk or working in the office area. This is helpful in a small-scale facility where the staff performs multiple tasks. Assistance is readily available and clearly visible. Privacy issues are addressed with visual and acoustic separation of registration desks. The patient lounge is well lit, pleasant, and located within 50 feet of all patient care areas, reducing patient movement and confusion.

The new facility portends continued vitality for the community of New Prague and the legacy of the family medical practice of the Bergs and fellow Parkview physicians.
