This freestanding multispecialty clinic is part of the newly designated Illinois Medical District at Springfield. Located on the Memorial Medical Center campus, the building connects to the hospital through an underground tunnel.

A water feature promotes a sense of calm as patients enter the two-story lobby. Ample windows create light-filled areas and outdoor views as patients and caregivers travel through the facility. Natural colors, carpeting, and geometric patterns further enhance the healing environment.

More than 60 physicians and surgeons from 15 specialties are housed in the facility, which has four stories and a basement. Its modular design concept creates exam rooms that are similarly sized and similarly arranged from floor to floor and specialty to specialty. The layout allows rooms to be modified as needs change. It also minimizes travel distances for patients, physicians, and staff and promotes efficiencies throughout. Wireless technology further improves outcomes and efficiency.

A unique combination of muscle-skeletal specialties on the first floor allows for collaboration between practices, including orthopedics, podiatry, neurology, neurosurgery, rheumatology, chiropractic, and physical medicine. Outpatient imaging is also on the first floor and includes general radiology, ultrasound, and mammography. Other floor assignments include specialties from obstetrics to surgery to cardiology. A laboratory is also included.

Owned by Memorial Medical Center, the building was designed for and leased by Springfield Clinic—an independent group of 180 physicians. The team involved multiple stakeholders in the design process, creating a solution that addresses many requirements and provides a valuable community resource.
