There was a recent blog post on Reed Construction Data by Mark Mergenschroer entitled, “BIM Requires a TEAM Approach!” in which Mergenschroer discusses his interactions with BIM users at various presentations. He paints a rather distressing picture of members of the architecture, engineering, and construction industries who are unwilling to participate in or unaware of the benefits of a team-approach to BIM and delivery:

Are firms really using BIM as a tool to work together, or are they using the term BIM to acquire jobs in a slow economy? I was very concerned to hear some architects saying that they are not handing over their models to the design or construction team and to hear some engineers saying that they just design and do not need to coordinate with the architect or general contractors/construction managers. I also heard a presenter comment, that if an MEP firm was saying that they were doing BIM that they were lying, because it cannot be done.

Do you experience similar resistance to a team-based approached in the healthcare design and construction field, or have you encountered others who are opposed to the idea? Do you even agree with Mergenschroer’s opinion?
