As noted, It seems that many times the facility design process is used as a vehicle to also design new operational processes, including new or revised information technology. As we have all learned, having stakeholders at the table is not enough. Its my opinion that for optimal implementation, new technology-or a change in its use- should be implemented in the currently operating environment ( whether only partially, or completelywhatever is achievable), in order to insure that the technology and design pieces of the building project do not become separated. We all should be asking what level of operational comfort that stakeholders have with the technology being proposed, what level of committment is being made to operational support of the built environmment design, and where can we document the design decisions made based on specific technology assumptions.
