Endless Mountains Health Systems (EMHS) broke ground on a critical access hospital replacement facility on a new site in Montrose, Pennsylvania.

The new hospital, which was designed by Stratton Brook Associates LLC of West Simsbury, Connecticut, will be constructed in phases.

Phase One is a three-story, 71,600-square-foot building, which includes emergency medicine, imaging, laboratory, surgery, inpatient beds, and related support services. According to Randy Cole, principal architect and owner of Stratton Brook, the new facility will replace an outdated one and will allow EMHS to enhance and provide healthcare services to an underserved area of Northeast Pennsylvania.

The project will be completed in the second quarter of 2013.

Construction management services are being provided by Sordoni Construction Services of Forty Fort, Pennsylvania, and major financing is being provided by the USDA Rural Development Program.
