Michael Garron Hospital, formerly Toronto East General Hospital, and Infrastructure Ontario have selected a design-build-finance team, including design firm Diamond Schmitt Architects, for a transformative campus redevelopment and patient care tower. The contract is valued at $411 million.

Plans include a new eight-story patient care tower, a three-story podium, and a four-story underground parking lot. The design features full glazing on the double-height lobby and access roof terraces for patients and staff will also have access to rooftop terraces. The project will add approximately 550,000 square feet of new space and renovate an additional 100,000 square feet of the existing hospital.

The facility will break ground in April and is pursuing LEED Silver certification from the U.S. Green Building Council.

The EllisDon Infrastructure Healthcare team is comprised of EllisDon Design Build Inc., Diamond Schmitt Architects and B+H Architects in joint venture, and EllisDon Capital Inc.
