To mark the completion of the structural steel framing of its new building, North Shore Medical Center (NSMC) held a topping off ceremony today at its Salem, Mass., campus. Two beams representing NSMC’s Salem and Union hospitals and signed by hospital employees were raised into place during the ceremony.

NSMC broke ground last fall on its plan to consolidate medical, surgical and behavioral health services on one campus in Salem. The new building is part of a $207 million project that includes a new 64,000-square-foot emergency department with dedicated space for adult and pediatric care, 24 new private inpatient rooms and a 90-bed behavioral health center in the former Spaulding Hospital.

Construction is slated to be complete in the fall of 2019.
