The new exterior of Parker Jewish Institute for Health Care and Rehabilitation, New Hyde Park, N.Y., is part of a $47 million multi-year master plan for the center. Renovations to the 45-year-old, 340,000-sqare-foot building were led by New York-based Tobin Parnes Design, which collaborated with Parker engineers and contractors.

The center’s master plan includes a protective walkway and guest rooms. Elements of the project also include a new 22-bed residential unit, a palliative care unit suite, an expanded dementia care unit, 324 renovated guest rooms, and a specialized Indian cultural unit. Also featured are high energy-efficient windows and façade improvements, redesigned public spaces, and landscaping that features a koi pond, plus infrastructural and mechanical upgrades.

The center provides long-term nursing care, sub-acute short-term rehabilitation care, hospice services as well as dialysis services. In addition to the lobby’s earth tones, there is a waterfall, tropical aquarium, floral arrangements, and horticultural-themed artwork.

In supporting Parker’s services (onsite dialysis, medical ambulette transportation, volunteer services and teaching affiliations), the renovation will serve the center and the surrounding community as the senior population ages.
