The emerging importance of wellness in contemporary life reflects a growing realization among healthcare providers and the public that promoting long-term physical fitness and healthy living is far more life-sustaining and cost-effective than intervening during acute episodes of preventable diseases. This holistic view of well-being is effectively demonstrated in the new, two-story William G. Rohrer Center for HealthFitness in Voorhees, New Jersey.

This state-of-the-art facility includes a gymnasium; aerobics; a natatorium with lap pool, exercise pool and warm water therapy pool; men’s and women’s spa and locker facilities; administration offices; conference center; delicatessen/dining area; and childcare facility. This is all attached to a medical office building offering a cardiologist, cardio rehab, pain management and other related specialties. The Center is designed and constructed for heavy, continuous use at all hours of the day by young and old, veterans and novices alike.

Its distinctive materials include an exposed, heavy-timber wood frame structure, concrete roof tile, brick masonry veneer exterior, precast coping and lintels, and a glass block and curtain wall system.
