The UHealth Lennar Foundation Medical Center has become a new front door for the University of Miami’s Coral Gables campus, creating a welcoming space for patients, students, and the community. The design reinforces the "Miami Modern" aesthetic that is already a main feature at the university.

The green roof terrace adjacent to the kinesiology and physical rehabilitation space creates opportunities for wellness and respite for staff, students, and patients.

The main lobby reinforces the UHealth brand and creates an elegant entry sequence, allowing for natural light and views to the lush, tropical landscape. A glass ibis sculpture hanging above the main entrance acts as a point of orientation vertically through the building.

Private cancer treatment bays allow for staff access and an adjacent area for family respite, while still creating an appropriate level of privacy for the patients while. The separate family and staff zones contribute to improved clinical efficiency and reduce cross traffic.

The ground level terrace is adjacent to an existing canal, which was restored and protected as part of the project. The canal is lined on both sides with native vegetation and a conditioned bridge over the waterway connects the medical center to an existing parking structure.
The Lennar Foundation Medical Center, operated by UHealth, University of Miami Health System, is a 209,000-square-foot ambulatory surgery center and multidisciplinary clinic for students, employees, and residents of Coral Gables, Fla.
Ambulatory design
The facility, designed by Perkins+Will (Atlanta), opened in December 2017.
The ambulatory center includes 110 multidisciplinary exam rooms for various specialties, six ambulatory operating rooms, two interventional procedure rooms, a three-room endoscopy suite, chemotherapy treatment unit, radiation oncology, and an imaging and diagnostic center.
The university required that the design of the clinic reinforce the notion of public health and wellness in multiple aspects.
Strategies included exterior public amenities, calming interior spaces, sustainable finishes, and strong connections to the University of Miami campus and community.
