Fortius Sport & Health in Burnaby, British Columbia, is the first fully integrated sports medicine, science, and training venture in Canada. It brings together an interdisciplinary team of sports medicine professionals committed to best practices in prevention, performance, treatment, education, and research, housed in a 148,000-square-foot facility.

Fortius envisioned a design that would foster and express a culture of collaboration, involvement, and ongoing improvement. Cannon Design is the architect, while Herman Miller designed the interior, with the goal of creating a facility that could adapt easily to new medical practices, technology innovation, and the needs of clients and staff. It opened in May 2013.

The architecture strives to capture the spirit of athletic motion. The facility includes an array of places and spaces, from welcoming areas to open administration spaces and common spaces to encourage collaboration among practitioners. The Lodge @ Fortius and the gymnasium are highlights of the facility, open to athletes and the local community. A comprehensive laboratory features state-of-the-art force, time, motion, and muscle activity measurement technologies to analyze human performance. Staff work areas are open concept, while furniture solutions are easily adaptable to future needs.
