If evidence based design is truly based on all available evidence, and not just the evidence of the how the three dimensional environment affects healing, isn't it time to include all the sciences, and not just those of biology, into the design process?
Technology has allowed us to realize humans are complex adaptive systems and not mechanical systems; we are "whole" people and not just the sum of our parts. In healing environments, we resolve deficits, but if we understand the "whole-ing" we need to consider the psychological resources. The focus of this seminar is based on recognizing, understanding and designing for the whole self in restorative environments.
Learning Objectives:
- The difference between healing and restorative environments
- The role of the "whole" person and the research that supports this perspective
- The role of the new five senses as integral aspects of "whole-ing" process
