Evidence Driven - Design and Health

Evidence based design is the process of basing decisions about the built environment on credible research to achieve the best possible outcomes. LEED is evidence based design in practice. In this session, attendees will learn about evidence based design and how its application in healthcare design can be expanded into other Perkins+Will market sectors utilizing LEED as a baseline. Attendees will also learn how to apply these concepts in project work.

Attendees will:

Tama Duffy Day, FIIDA, FASID, LEED AP

National Interior Design Healthcare Leader, Perkins+Will

Tama Duffy Day is a Design Principal in the Washington DC office and the firm's national Interior Design Healthcare Practice Leader, formulating research and design initiatives throughout the firm's 23 offices. She was a Principal in the Perkins+Will New York office for ten years before relocating to Washington DC. In her 27 years of experience, Tama has lead multi-phased, complex projects throughout the United States. She has received more than 40 awards and honors for her work, and in both 2009 and 2010 she was named one of the "25 Most Influential People in Health Design" by Healthcare Design magazine.

A widely published expert, Tama also lectures extensively on healing design issues. She helped launch a healthcare continuing education program with the New York University Real Estate Division and taught extensively throughout a five-year span. She currently is Adjunct Faculty at the Corcoran College of Art + Design in Washington DC.

Matthew DeGeeter, ASID, LEED AP ID+C

Interior Designer, Perkins+Will

Matthew DeGeeter is a Project Designer in the Interior Design Studio of the Washington, DC office. His experience includes documentation of multi-disciplinary projects with a focus on the Healthcare practice. While working with teams from multiple offices, he has developed innovative ways to improve the production efficiency for these projects.

Matthew's strengths lie in translating abstract client goals into the built environment. He is valued by clients and peers for effective communication of client culture through tangible, graphic mediums. An involved member of the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID), Matthew was selected and served as a national juror on the Healthcare Design 2010 and 2011 program design teams and was also appointed to chair the newly developed ASID Emerging Professional Advisory Council.
