Selecting Proper Window - Wall Connections for Healthcare Design

The performance of the window-wall interface has a significant effect on overall building enclosure system performance. Problems typically occur from improper design or construction practices.

Understanding the options for these critical termination and transition details, proper specification and QC testing are key to producing a high performance building enclosure.

This presentation will describe the methods of making this critical transition, how to specify them and detail the testing which should be completed. A case study will be included.

In addition to supporting the full line of sealant, air barrier and waterproofing solutions, Ken specializes in providing glazing and connectivity solutions to architects, engineers, consultants and contractors. Recent projects include New Parkland Hospital, Dallas Love Field Airport Modernization, Texas Heart Hospital and the University of Texas at Dallas Art & Technology Center.

Chris Johnson is a Vice President of Corgan Associates, Inc., an architecture and interior design firm based in Dallas, Texas, with locations worldwide.  Chris graduated with a bachelor of architecture degree from Texas Tech University in 1990, and has over 20 years of experience in the design and construction industry.  His background in design and project management brings a unique perspective to his role as Corgan’s Director of Technical Resources.  In this role, Chris is involved in every type of project the studios design including aviation, education, corporate, healthcare and mission critical facilities.  Chris’ recent project work includes Sacramento International Airport’s Central Terminal B, the New Parkland Hospital, Fossil Headquarters, Lady Bird Johnson Middle School, and Encana Oil & Gas U.S. Headquarters.

 

John Gardiner

John Gardiner is originally from Ireland and came to the US on a track scholarship, to the University of North Texas in Denton, Texas where he graduated in 1996 with a degree in Arts & Sciences.  John started with Balfour Beatty Construction after he graduated in 1996 and has been in the construction industry for 16 years.  He has worked on multiple commercial projects including Office / Residential, Hospitality and Healthcare.  The most recent completed commercial projects to highlight that John was involved with were the Gaylord Hotel & Convention Center in Grapevine Texas, One Arts Plaza and the Dallas Texas OMNI Hotel – the 1st LEED GOLD Hotel in the United States outside of Las Vegas.  John is currently managing the Quality Control division on the New Parkland Hospital in Dallas Texas.
