Healthcare Design has been honoring the industry’s most influential people for a long time now, and last year we tried something new to put a finer point on the process. There are a lot of different players who have a hand in any design project, whether it’s a simple exam room remodel or a ground-up, multi-million-dollar healthcare campus. The HCD 10, as we now call it, identifies 10 categories of professionals, because we want to recognize those distinct levels of influence.

Last year’s process was exciting; we weren’t quite sure what we’d get, and we were thrilled by the response. The editorial team went through all the nominations together and we’re really happy with the group that emerged. (See our article on the winners to get to know them better.) We’re looking forward to seeing who rises to the top this time around.

The categories are:

  • Architect
  • Interior designer
  • Owner (system, provider, facility)
  • Construction/building executive
  • Educator
  • Association or foundation executive
  • Researcher
  • Rising star (under age 40)
  • Firm of the year (A/E/C, interior design, landscaping, consulting, etc.)

There are a few of important points and caveats. One, we’ll be focusing on contributions made to the industry specifically within the past 12 months. So in your nominations, please be specific about projects and work done during this time period. Two, anyone who’s already been named among Healthcare Design’s HCD 10 or Most Influential lists within the past three years is not eligible. And three, if you’re wondering if you can nominate yourself, the answer is YES. If you’re particularly proud of the year you’ve had, tell us. (Or get your marketing department to do it. Either way.)

The deadline for nominations is extended to Wednesday, Nov. 20, and the winners will be featured in the January/February 2014 issue of Healthcare Design and honored during the 2014 Healthcare Design Conference. So get your nominations in, and if you have any questions, just let me know.
