The OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria, Ill., was designed to provide a home away from home and serve both the patient and family. The 23,000-square-foot, newly constructed facility opened in January 2013 and features 16 patient rooms, a chapel, and common spaces for patients, family and friends.

OSF Hospice, the OSF Healthcare Foundation, and its architect had established a Prairie-style building design when they engaged Spellman Brady & Co. (St. Louis) for interior design, furniture, and artwork services. An interior color palette featuring warm greens, blues, and rust-oranges was chosen to echo the ample views of the outdoors; natural light is abundant in each room. Interiors were also unified with the architectural vernacular through the use of warm wood tones and stone. The furniture was selected to hold up to the demands of healthcare while remaining comfortable. The artwork was judiciously chosen to serve all who inhabit the space. The OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home is the first hospice home to open in central Illinois, and only the fourth such home in the state.
