The 94,000-square-foot Stonebridge at Burlington opened in April and is the largest of The Northbridge Companies’ (Burlington, Mass.) assisted-living facilities. Designed by The Architectural Team Inc. (Chelsea, Mass.), the 110-living-unit community accommodates a spectrum of physical and mental levels of independence and acuity.

While 26 apartments of the memory care sub-community are organized around an enclosed outdoor courtyard and common areas, the remaining 84 apartments accommodate both independent residents as well as those fitting a traditional assisted-living profile. The integration of the two allows a greater degree of “aging in place" and avoids demoralizing and disorienting relocations based on changing acuities.

The resort-like interior features tall ceiling heights and windows with ample visual connections to the outside. Natural finishes, including wood and stone, are used throughout the open layout, as well as in the apartment interiors where many incorporate granite countertops and hardwood floors.

Program offerings within Stonebridge at Burlington include a restaurant-grade main dining room, Good Dog Café, O’Riordan’s pub, and a full-service spa, beauty salon and barber shop. Wellness and fitness centers, a cinema, art studio, Brain Gym, and other program-specific amenities are also available.

The building exterior is designed in a contemporary shingle style, with gables, wrap-around porches, and colonnaded enclosed promenades, and set against a wooded backdrop and manicured landscaping.
