Great Ormond Street Hospital in London has selected a new preferrd contractor to build its new pediatric healthcare research facility.

Construction on the approximately $75 million, 140,000-square-foot Zayed Centre for Research into Rare Diseases in Children is expected to start in January 2017 and conclude in late 2018.

The research center will provide offices and collaboration space for scientists and medical teams working to develop treatments for rare diseases in children, research laboratories, a cardiology suite, advanced technology, an outpatient clinic, and more.

Skanska will be responsible for the design, construction, and mechanical and electrical fit-out of the facility, which will operate as a partnership between Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Foundation Trust, University College London and Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity.
