Women & Children’s Hospital of Buffalo announced that construction on the new John R. Oishei Children’s Hospital is more than 90 percent complete and remains on schedule to open in November 2017.

After breaking ground in October 2014 and completing the entirety of the building’s exterior in late 2016, interior construction of the new facility—including installation and testing of the mechanical and electrical systems—is nearly complete.

Recent construction milestones include the completion all operating rooms, elevators and floors 8 through 12 where the mother baby unit, pediatric intensive care unit, medical surgical units and hematology/oncology unit reside. Upcoming milestones include the completion and certification of the helipad in July, the installation of the roof garden, and the removal of the trailers and site fencing in August.

The $270 million Oishei Children’s Hospital will be an integral part of the medical campus, linking with Buffalo General, the Gates Vascular Institute, Roswell Park Cancer Institute, the new University at Buffalo Medical School and more.  With 12 floors and 185 beds, the facility will allow the hospital to maintain its status as one of only 43 free-standing children’s hospitals in the nation, and the only one of its kind in New York.

Turner Construction Company is the construction manager for the project.
