Presbyterian Española Hospital (PEH), located in Española, N.M., celebrated the grand opening of its new emergency department in June.

Over the past five years, PEH’s emergency department has experienced significant growth in patient visits with more than 27,000 visits in 2016. As a result, the decision was made to begin building a new ED, which added five more rooms and allowed space for all rooms to be private.

The new emergency department has 18 private, emergency care rooms, including two critical care trauma rooms. It will provide 24-hour emergency medical services, including digital radiology and medical imaging. It also includes a dedicated room for families experiencing a difficult time to gather. The square footage has also increased, from approximately 10,500 square feet to 25,000 square feet.

Dekker/Perich/Sabatini designed the space.
