Hamilton Health Sciences’ new Ron Joyce Children’s Health Centre in Ontario, Canada, has earned LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Gold Certification.

The building has a four-story atrium, outdoor terraces, and full-height windows to bring in abundunt natural light. The overall design focuses on creating a welcoming and engaging atmosphere of care for children, youth and adults.

The project was certified gold, under LEED Canada New Construction standards, earning 64 points.

Highlights include recycled content for construction materials, locally sourced construction materials, energy-efficient technologies such as individual lighting controls, installation of low-flow fixtures, low-emitting materials, a white roof membrane to reflect heat, and more.

The design-builder is PCL Constructors Inc. (Toronto).
