WellSpan York Hospital’s Trauma Center, located in York, Pa., has been reaccredited as a Level 1 trauma center by the Pennsylvania Trauma Systems Foundation.

To attain the Level 1 accreditation, hospitals must provide multidisciplinary treatment and specialized resources for trauma patients, trauma research, a surgical residency program and an annual volume of 600 major trauma patients per year.

The trauma center is part of a robust hospital emergency department, which completed a $50 million renovation this spring. The project included construction of a larger helipad, allowing for larger helicopters with more patient capacity to transport patients.

WellSpan York Hospital has been designated a regional trauma center since 1986, with its first Level 1 accreditation in 2009.
