Norton Healthcare has unveiled plans to invest $78.3 million to create a new cardiac intensive care unit (CICU) and renovate the “Just for Kids” Critical Care Center as well as two of the neonatal intensive care units at Norton Children’s Hospital in Louisville, Ky.

The Jennifer Lawrence Cardiac Intensive Care Unit will feature 17 private rooms dedicated to children recovering from heart procedures, including open heart surgery, heart transplant, and other conditions requiring intensive care.

The CICU will include three neonatal rooms, 14 private CICU patient rooms, and new family-dedicated gathering space. In the NICU renovations, 29 patient beds will be converted to private beds and visiting rooms for extended family will be added.

DesignGroup (Columbus, Ohio) is the planner and design architect for the project and is collaborating with a local firm to complete construction.

The renovations and additions total more than 101,000 square feet.  The expected completion for the CICU is the end of 2019. The entire renovation and expansion project is slated for completion in 2021.
