Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital has completed the first phase of its $49 million modernization project in Virginia Beach, Va.

The work includes the redesign and consolidation of the hospital’s three separate intensive care units into one 24-bed ICU. The opening of the Reed W. Kelley Intensive Care Unit allows critical care teams to work in one centralized space.

The ICU team will also have direct access to operating rooms and the emergency department through use of two new elevators.

The project is expected to be completed in 2020.
