Shawnee Mission Medical Center has opened a new, 3,550 square-foot hybrid operating room in Merriam, Kan.

The surgical space was converted from an outdated clinical area and is equipped with advanced diagnostic imaging equipment to enable minimally-invasive heart and vascular surgeries. Architectural details include a flexible floor plan and an elevated control desk for patient viewing.

The multidisciplinary space allows healthcare professionals from different specialties to treat patients in the same location, including Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacements (TAVR), electrophysiology, vascular procedures, and cardiac catheterization.

The project team included Pulse Design Group (architect); United Excel (general contractor); Professional Engineering Consultants; P1 Group; Capital Electric; Allied Construction Services; Shield Casework; and Jayhawk Fire Sprinkler Co.
