A vacant Sears department store building in Santa Barbara, Calif., is being eyed as a potential alternative care facility for COVID-19 patients, according to an article in Noozhawk.

The 72,000-square-foot building could house 200 beds for patients with coronavirus infections and would require up to $1.2 million for cleaning and possible upgrades to electric, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning, and other improvements to make the facility operational.

County officials are not anticipating using the Sears building in the immediate future, according to the article.
