Located in Valhalla, N.Y., Westchester Medical Center, the flagship of the Westchester Medical Center Health Network, provides residents of the state’s Hudson Valley region with specialty acute care services such as Level 1 trauma and burn care, organ transplants and advanced neurovascular procedures, and more.

Stretching between New York City and Albany, the region is home to more than 2 million people. Due to the demand for its range of services, Westchester Medical Center operates near or at its capacity on a daily basis.

To better serve its patient population, Westchester Medical Center will construct an eight-story, 280,000-square-foot ambulatory care pavilion adjacent to its existing tower. The new pavilion will not only provide a much-needed, 20,000-square-foot private room expansion of the hospital, but also 185,000 square feet of ambulatory care service not currently available on its campus.

This space will be home to an advanced imaging center, an ambulatory surgery center, and a heart and vascular institute. Additionally, another 75,000 square feet of space will be set aside for physician offices.

To help accommodate the expansion and the expected increase in patients and family caregivers at Westchester Medical Center, roads on its campus will be adjusted and additional parking areas will be constructed. Perkins Eastman is the project architect. Skanska USA is the construction manager.

Construction is set to begin late spring/early summer of 2016, as Westchester Medical Center opens a newly furbished, 6,000-square-foot main lobby that will include a caregiver center for patient families. Project completion is expected in 2018.
