Facing increasing need for inpatient and outpatient capacity and to prepare for future growth and expansion, Inspira Health (Mullica Hill, N.J.) tapped Array Advisors (Washington, D.C.), the healthcare consulting arm of Array Architects, to conduct an investigation of their existing Woodbury, N.J. facility to understand the impact it has on the entire system. The outcome found that it was more cost effective to build new than to renovate and upgrade its existing Woodbury, N.J. facility, and in May 2017, the health system broke ground on Inspira Medical Center Mullica Hill hospital in Mullica Hill, N.J.

Situated on 100 acres, the 467,000-square-foot replacement facility features 210 private patient rooms; a maternity ward with 16 labor, delivery, post-partum recovery rooms; a split flow emergency department with an integrated pediatrics sub-unit and senior ER; a comprehensive cancer program; emergency angioplasty for heart attack patients; and an interventional surgery platform. Additionally, smart room technology is used to integrate signage, EMR data, and communication with the patient.

To address patient and family comfort, the acute care facility, which was completed in December 2019, includes hotel-like amenities in the waiting areas, distributed pockets of waiting and respite areas with abundant natural light, a single point of check-in for ease of navigation, and outdoor dining.

The integrated project delivery team completed the facility 30 days ahead of schedule.
