The American College of Chest Physicians (CHEST) global headquarters and Innovation, Simulation, and Training Center, completed in January 2014 and LEED Silver-certified, provides a home for its 18,700 members in a build-to-suit structure. It was designed by Perkins+Will. Located within The Glen mixed-use development in Glenview, Ill., the building combines 33,000 square feet of office space with 15,000 square feet of training facilities, and features six ICU simulation training rooms, eight breakout training rooms, and a large auditorium. The two-story lobby and reception areas harness natural light to greet members and visitors, and leads to the new Innovation, Simulation, and Training Center.

The Innovation, Simulation, and Training Center offers CHEST members and course attendees interactive educational opportunities and performance assessment tools they can extend to their patient care services in hospitals, clinics, and doctor’s offices around the world. The training center, which also can be rented by other healthcare groups, provides the latest technology in medical simulation education to teach nursing and patient-care skills focused on immediate diagnoses for respiratory healthcare. The center also offers group breakout rooms that support informal interactions for problem-solving and peer exchange, and a large, multipurpose auditorium.

The 3,200-square-foot auditorium adjoining the training center hosts healthcare discussions for both large-scale meetings and smaller breakout sessions. There are multiple room configurations, and projector screens and A/V capabilities embedded into the flexible space.
