Laura Silvoy, Associate principal, director of continuous improvement, Array Advisors (Conshohocken, Pa.)

In 2014, Laura Silvoy joined Array Advisors, the consulting division of Array Architects, during her final semester of study to earn a Master of Engineering degree in Healthcare Systems from Lehigh University. As a Lean Bronze healthcare systems engineer, she focuses on helping health systems nationwide improve operational efficiency and reduce the cost of care, drawing on data, decision-making and data visualization tools, and her Lean training.

For example, on a project for Inspira Medical Center in Mullica Hill, N.J., she led the data analysis effort to support the design team in defining a new split-patient flow in the hospital’s emergency department (ED), which helped reduce costs associated with the ED by $1.8 million. For another client, Martin Health System, Silvoy led a Kaizen event to design a new ED, using feedback from the stakeholders involved to deliver a system-wide solution that would reduce average patient wait times to less than five minutes.

Within the firm, she spearheaded a Lean practitioner course, which is now foundational to Array’s culture, and developed dashboards to help leaders understand current company conditions and envision where the firm is heading in terms of staff utilization, project progression, and financials. Outside the office, she’s a speaker and subject matter expert, sharing her knowledge of simulation modeling, process-led design, and process improvement.

She also devotes time to mentoring the next generation, whether she’s serving as a judge for a student simulation modeling competition or aiding in professional development through the Society of Healthcare Systems Engineers, where she served as a member of the board from 2017 to 2019. Silvoy’s data-driven approach is fueling smart, efficiency-driven solutions that are inspiring fresh ideas within her firm as well as the industry.
