Most provider organizations are striving to meet similar challenges through their building programs, such as addressing outdated building stock, bringing primary and specialty services closer to patients, or achieving greater efficiency and future flexibility. The magic of the annual Healthcare Design Showcase is that within its pages, you’ll find 42 unique solutions.

Each project within the special section published in our August 2019 issue is addressing these or similar drivers, all while answering the needs of a specific patient population, care delivery team, and geographic location. In them, you’ll find endless sources of inspiration, making this issue a resource worth keeping on your desk year-round.

All the projects submitted to the Design Showcase were reviewed by a jury of industry professionals appointed by our partner organizations, The Center for Health Design, International Interior Design Association, and American Society of Interior Designers, and judged based on how well they performed in the categories of innovation, aesthetics, operations, and collaboration.

The projects that received the highest scores in the first round of review advanced to a live judging event held this spring in Chicago. There, jury members reviewed those projects one more time, discussed and debated their merits, and came to consensus on those that would receive finalist recognition or be given an award. In the end, we have two Award of Merit winners, three Honorable Mention winners, and four finalists. Congrats to all!

Beginning this week, we’ll post editorial content from our coverage here online, including expanded Q+As with the project leads behind the Award of Merit projects, short profiles of Honorable Mention winners, and a quick view of the finalists through the lens of our judging criteria. There’s a lot of wonderful work on display, and I hope you enjoy exploring it.
