I’m sure most of you are familiar with Modern Healthcare‘s annual ranking of the 100 most powerful people in healthcare. For a number of years, the magazine has polled the public and posted a list of power players from all ends of the industry, somewhat akin to a healthcare version of the classic Fortune 500 lists.

Well, as Oscar Wilde once put it, “Talent borrows, genius steals.” With that sentiment in mind, we’ve just opened up the nomination process for the 2009 Most Influential People in Healthcare Design. We’re looking for you to tell us who are the most influential architects, designers, owners, or others impacting the design and construction of healthcare facilities in 2009.

How you define “influential” is entirely up to you; we don’t presume to categorize or set criteria for how or why you should nominate someone. Our goal is to find out from you, the members of the healthcare design community, who the thought leaders of the industry are in your eyes-with as little interference from us as possible. Who are the architects that you look to as the most innovative? Which interior designers set the standards for healthcare work that everyone else follows? Which owners have the vision to make healthcare facilities better by thinking outside of the box? Whose creativity makes your jaw drop? We want you to tell us.

I urge you to visit http://www.hcdmagazine.com/submitmostinfluential and submit as many names as you like, as often as you like, and for whatever reasons you like. Freedom of choice is a wonderful thing!

Nominations will be accepted through Friday, June 12, and the final reader-voting process will begin on Monday, June 15, from a list of the most nominated individuals. The final list, along with profiles of the top finishers, will appear in the December 2009 issue of HEALTHCARE DESIGN. I am eagerly anticipating the results of the voting, and I hope you are, too.
