Council Bluffs, Iowa-based Alegent Creighton Health Mercy Hospital worked with the local office of architecture firm Schemmer Associates to design a 6,500-sq.-ft. healing garden (completed in fall 2011). Funded by private donations, the $200,000 garden is located near the hospital’s ICU and chapel. The whole garden reflects a community effort: trees, benches, and even the stained glass were made possible through generous gifts from community members and hospital staff. Local artists and craftsmen played a significant role in creating custom pieces for the healing landscape.

The Mercy Hospital Healing Garden includes many aspects of aromatherapy and feng shui, along with the soothing sound of water flowing. Several seating areas are available to promote comfort and relaxation. Click the photo above for a visual tour of the space.
