The American Institute of Architects’ (AIA) special COVID-19 task force has updated its COVID-19 Alternate Care Sites Assessment Tool for international distribution and with information from the front lines. The checklist highlights areas to consider when evaluating buildings to be used for temporary healthcare operations during a pandemic

Originally created in English for primary distribution in the U.S., the assessment tool has been translated into Spanish, French, and Portuguese and is being distributed internationally by the U.S. Department of State. Additionally, the tool has been updated to reflect recommendations from frontline workers and hospital facility operations, as well as s the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the United States Army Corps of Engineers, about building selection, general conditions of tool use, functional requirements, and facility modifications required under design/build.

The updated version of the checklist can be found here.  A comprehensive briefing of the AIA task force’s initiatives and its COVID-19 ArchMap are also available on the organization’s website.
